For many years, system integrators (SIs) have been involved in building various business systems.
Along with the evolution of technology, the development environment has also changed—from waterfall to agile methodologies. Moreover, the emergence of AI has begun to challenge the very nature of business itself.
Amid these transformations, the importance of “pausing and quietly reflecting” has become clear.
Seaside Cloudworks was born from that very idea—as a virtual studio.
Seaside Cloudworks traces its roots back to the 1990s, when a regional IT company named Umibe Information Systems was established. At that time, the IT industry was in turmoil following the collapse of the economic bubble, with many small companies supporting local businesses and acting as subcontractors for larger IT firms.
Umibe Information Systems set up its base along the coastline, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, aiming to provide IT services rooted in the local community. The name “Umibe,” meaning “seaside,” reflects both the founder’s strong affinity for the ocean and the tranquil environment surrounding the company.
Back then, technologies like “cloud computing” and “generative AI” were still unfamiliar terms.
The IT field was akin to exploring a new continent, full of possibilities. The company focused primarily on program development, system maintenance, and environment setup.
However, recent years have brought rapid changes to the IT industry. The spread of cloud technologies, the rise of agile development, and the advent of generative AI have accelerated automation and the generalization of technical skills.
In response, Umibe Information Systems rebranded itself as Seaside Cloudworks to place cloud technology at the core of its business and step into a new stage. The name “Cloudworks” represents the commitment to building new ventures using cloud technology. It also evokes the image of towering cumulus clouds over the seaside—symbolizing vast potential.
A pivotal moment for the company was hearing clients say, “This level of work can probably be done by generative AI now.” That feedback sparked the decision to change direction.
Moving forward, the company intends to keep a close eye on technological trends, actively incorporate new tools, and continue embracing challenges.
